Summer Storms Cause Outages for Electric Cooperatives

Thousands of Kansas electric cooperative members were without electricity after huge wind gusts moved across the cooperative’s service area yesterday.

“We had winds between 75 and 100 miles per hour,” said Don Hellwig, general manager of DS&O. “These localized wind bursts caused several of Westar’s transmission poles to go down.”

DS&O linemen continue to work around-the-clock to both identify the damage to the system and to restore service to its members. Several outages were restored this morning. However, the hundreds of members affected by the downed transmission lines may not have their power restored until late Thursday night or Friday morning.

The staff and lineman at DS&O would like to thank its members for their patience as we work to restore power.
