About UsFollowing an informational meeting in December, 1936, farmers from the townships of Dickinson, Saline and Ottawa Counties formed groups consisting of two or three farmers to create survey teams. These survey teams were then used to determine the number of households and businesses who would use electricity. The result of this survey was the formation of DS&O Rural Electric Cooperative. DS&O obtained the first REA loan in Kansas on April 10, 1937, in the amount of $254,651. This loan allowed the cooperative to serve 647 consumers. In 1991, Smokey Valley Electric Cooperative in Lindsborg, Kansas, merged with DS&O. At the present time, DS&O serves approximately 7,500 customers located in various areas of nine counties in Kansas. The service area exists from Junction City to McPherson and from Glasco to Lost Springs. This area includes the City of Solomon and certain areas within the city limits of Junction City.
